As I sit looking over the constant movement of the cabs and busses from our Hotel room, I marvel at the masses of humanity below. I gaze at the skyline from the window. I look up and realize how many people live and work above my level. This city's population lives in the air! It is not a huge city in area, just in the massive buildings that occupy the space. At that moment I realize the challenge faced by the Fire and Police Dept. The massive buildings are mind boggling. How can you protect the masses and property. My city of 7 or 8 story buildings seem so small compared to this huge collection of structures. I sit in awe. I think back to 9/11 and the horrible events. How the brave brothers threw themselves into the task. Not knowing the outcome, but doing what they must to help those in need. I saw the 7 story hole in the earth where two 100+ story buildings once stood. Station 10 of F.D.N.Y. not 50 yds. away. I thought back to what it must have been like. The ultimate hell on earth broke loose that day. They really put it on the line.

I also took the Harbor tour by the Statue of Liberty. The history of the area reminds you of the hope and promise of the land of freedom. Today I see that whether our country's actions are right or wrong, we must not sit back and do nothing. Our troops are battling today to introduce freedom and democracy to the Middle Eastern countries of Iraq and Afghanistan. I hope the outcome shows the world that these events will lead to  peace for our children someday. God willing, it will turn out well.
